"GIFT FROM THE SEA" FOR PINK SATURDAY

http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com

Thank you to Beverly for hosting this very popular weekly event.

If you've never read this book, you're missing a real treat. Anne Morrow Lindbergh wrote this during a vacation on Captiva Island, Florida. For 14 summers in a row, my family vacationed on Captiva. That I first read this book in the same place that it was written, was very meaningful to me. I was a mother with young children, at the time, just as Anne Lindbergh was when she wrote it. Sitting on the beach today, I knew it was time to re-read it. Since my now-grown daughter has my copy, I'll be heading for my favorite local book store, Page and Palette, tomorrow to pick up another copy.

"Gift from the Sea is like a shell itself in its small and perfect form . . . It tells of light and life and love and the security that lies at the heart."--New York Times Book Review.

In this inimitable classic, graceful, lucid, and lyrical, Anne Morrow Lindbergh shares her meditations on youth and age, love and marriage, peace, and contentment as she set them down during a brief vacation by the sea. -- Amazon.com review

"I mean to lead a simple life, to choose a simple shell I can carry easily – like a hermit crab. But I do not. I find that my frame of life does not foster simplicity."

"Patience and faith. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach – waiting for a gift from the sea."

"I too have run away, I realize, I have shed the shell of my life, for these few weeks of vacation."

Anne Morrow Lindbergh's lyrical words are still relevant and presage so many of the themes of today's most popular books: simplicity, peaceful solitude, caring for the soul, a woman finding her place in society and life.--
